"Hello… I’m Gurpreet. I'm 19 and a BSc Social Work student from the University of Portsmouth. I started my placement (for 100 days) with Off The Record in January 2010. The purpose of the placement is for students to gain practical experience of working with people in a work base setting and to develop a range of skills appropriate to social work. I can very proudly say that my placement with Off The Record has given me opportunities to develop my skills, and learn lots of new ones too. The trainings I have attended have been excellent. I have worked alongside both the paid and volunteer teams and have met lots of very caring and friendly people. Additionally I have taken part in a wide range of promotional activities, group work in schools and some fundraising research. The placement has been a very valuable experience for me and will certainly help me in my future career as a social worker."
