Training for new volunteers
- Off The Record runs an accredited 4 day selection and training programme for new volunteers twice a year. This is determined by the needs of our rota and funding, but usually takes place in the autumn and new year.
- You don't need any previous experience (though we would need you to be empathic and understanding of the needs of young people).
- You need to be 18 or over.
- All potential volunteers complete this extensive 4-day accredited training. This covers all main policies and procedures and offers skills development in engaging, enabling and empowering young people. This course also explores telephone work and other challenging aspects of working in a counselling setting.
- In line with Off The Record's child protection policy, all new volunteers are required to provide 2 satisfactory references and complete an enhanced disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau.
