Top tips for confidentiality

If you phone ...

  • Find a private place to phone us.
  • After calling us, dial another number so the next person can't see you called us if they press the redial button.
  • Keep numbers and addresses in a secure place.
  • Don't add any details or notes by our phone number or address.
  • Use another name when you phone us.
  • Check with us that it is OK to ring you back on a certain number.
  • If you use a pre-pay mobile phone there won't be a bill with a record of your call, but it may be registered in the phone's internal memory.

If you e-mail ...

  • Save and store e-mails securely using a password.
  • Don't send e-mail details other people may accidentally find.
  • If you are worried that e-mails you send or receive from us may be viewed by other people using the PC, you might want to open your own account with Hotmail, Yahoo or any other free internet provider.

If you surf the web ...

  • This may leave a trace in the browser history files.  If you are worried by this, find out how to clear the history before you surf.  (You may wish to use the guidelines published by Childline )
